International Womens Day

Tuesday, 08 March 2005
All day

Organizer: WomensVanguardofLeft

March 8 is International Womens Day. International Women's Day is an international day of recognition about women, for women, their struggles, achievements and work towards economic, social, political, and interpersonal justice and equality.

On March 8 and March 9, the group.msn.com/WomensVanguardofLeft will be paying tribute and holding online discussion forums on women, feminism and the current status of women today. The forum is a Marxist feminist forum and an Anarcho-feminist forum where women activists, workers, mothers, academics, etc., can come together and talk about their activism, spread the word on activities in your area, and discuss the struggles women face today all over the globe. Special focus discussions are on femicides (Juarez, Central America), Women in Iraq and the dangers of fundamentalism, How US imperialism is hurting women both in Iraq, Afghanistan, and in U.S. A. (rape of women combatents by US soldiers for example...and the rape/abuse of Iraqi women prisoners and citizens). The forum is militant on many issues as well as intellectual, everything from radical women in the Art/Literature world (Frida Kahlo, Audre Lorde, Tina Modotti, etc) to radical women in polemic (Alexia Kollantai, Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, etc) to multi-cultural and women of color (writers, activists, revolutionaries), and issues from AIDS in Africa/Asia, trafficking, beauty modification gone too far (stretching of legs in China to look tall), gender constructs, GLBT issues...its all there and much more. This is a forum to connect with women from around the world, to share, build solidarity and planning of actions for the future, for a better world for all citizens. We would love to see you on the forum and hear about your work. It is a moderated forum (no spam, etc). We have several members from Europe and many who read the forum from all over...this is a good means of getting networked. I'll be working on some campaigns on March 8, but the forum will be up and running...don't let the term Vanguard scare you off...its satirical, as there is a need for radical Women's representation today within the left...why the forum was created.
